The real choice usually comes down to which side of the border you're already standing on.
Running since 1846, Maid of the Mist departs from Niagara Falls State Park on the American side — no seating, ponchos issued at boarding.
Operating from the Canadian side since 2014, these boats add seating, indoor viewing areas, and evening illumination cruises.
Both tours take the same close pass by all three falls — pick based on your side of the border, not the experience itself.
